In 1898 Saucony Shoe Manufacturing company opened in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. Saucony saw a niche for a high performance running shoe, at the time people were running in leather, spikes and even barefoot and Saucony were determined to design a shoe to change the way people ran. 1972 saw American Frank Shorter win the Olympic marathon gold and this created a running frenzy across America and demand was higher than ever, Saucony soon became the most sought after running shoe of the time. The 1980s saw Sauconys catalogue fill with the iconic silhouettes we still see today such as the ‘Jazz’ and the ‘Shadow’. These silhouettes are still being created and developed today with numerous collaborations with high-end stores, designers and artists, Sauconys design team always come up trumps with mainline and collaborative pieces.
