Vans
Vans was founded by Paul Van Doren, and three partners, way back in 1966. Paul had the simple idea of producing shoes and selling them directly to the public, without going through a middle man.
The partners opened their first store in Anaheim, California on 16th March 1966 and on the very first morning they sold twelve pairs of Vans shoes. The shoes were then manufactured in store and ready for collection later the same day!
Over the years the company has had it's ups and downs... Vans were forced to file for bankruptcy back in 1983 yet sold to VF in 2004 for $396 million!
