Founded by Graham Tait North Skate Mag has stood the test of time by consistently maintaining the values and integrity of the photographic medium. Technology seemed to reign supreme throughout the naughties however for alot of people including us the move towards non tangible mp3 and mp4 formats and online mags left us with a cold feeling, we're quite fond of having dvd's, vinyl records and lots and lots of photo albums.
Graham at North was with us on that one and created a skateboarding publication that presented images only shot on film, it's quite hard to pin point just what it is about film photography that conjures such a strong connection with us. I think it's probably the alignment of the format and skateboarding, seeing skate pictures that are super crispy and perfect just gets a bit boring after a while, we like seeing the sprocket holes on film scans, we like seeing the grain on some pushed black and white film and we like the vivid colours certain film stock produces.
It's safe to say North Skate Mag is one of our favourite publications, if you haven't read an issue before we couldn't recommend it enough. I mean it's free so you really have no excuse...
